Estud.soc.agric. vol.5 no.se Rio de Janeiro 2011 Labeling as trouble: the firing off of RR soy and the regulation of transgenics in Brazil Cristiano Luis Lenzi1 ABSTRACT This paper presents an analysis of the conflict involving the release of Roundup score (RR) soy in Brazil from what is called a story-line of labeling. The set is to appreciate the resources and strategies used by two discursive alliances existent in the conflict to legitimize their position in the policy-making scope in the process of release of transgenics. The work examined statements and arguments that permeated the dig on the issue in the country at ill-sorted propagation and used the case involving the release of RR soy as a reference for the analysis. The text aims to show that these discourses have real different assumptions about labeling and its relation to issues involving the principle of substantial equivalence, science, gamble and nutritional safety.
